How to Make Herb and Cheese Bread

Herb and cheese bread is not a yeast dough. It is easy to make and is great to serve with any Italian dish.

Utensils: Mixing bowl, spoon, blender

Ingredients:
Unbleached flour, unsifted: 1 1⁄4 cups
Baking powder: 1 1⁄2 tablespoons
Baking soda: 1⁄2 teaspoon
Dash of black pepper
Sugar: 1 1⁄2 teaspoons
Egg (or two egg whites): 1
Buttermilk (2⁄3 cup low-fat milk to which 2 teaspoons white vinegar has been added): 2⁄3 cup
Oil (preferably light olive oil): 1 1⁄2 to 2 tablespoons
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese: 1⁄3 cup
Grated part-skim provolone or mozzarella cheese: 1⁄3 cup
Chopped fresh Italian parsley: 2 tablespoons
Chopped fresh basil: 1 teaspoon
Chopped fresh thyme: 1 teaspoon
Chopped fresh oregano: 1 teaspoon
Chopped fresh savoury: 1⁄2 teaspoon

Instructions

    Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, pepper and sugar

    First of all you need to take a mixing bowl. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, pepper and sugar in the mixing bowl. Then mix the ingredients thoroughly with a spoon.

    Add egg, buttermilk and oil

    Next you need to add an egg or two egg whites in the mixing bowl. Then add 2/3 cup of buttermilk and 1 ½ to 2 tablespoons of oil. Blend all the ingredients after that by stirring with help of a spoon or a blender. It is preferred to use hands but in order to save time, you can use machine to blend the ingredients.

    You can use 2/3 cup of low-fat milk instead of buttermilk. However, make sure that two teaspoons of vinegar is added to the low-fat milk.

    Add cheese and herbs

    You need to add cheese and herbs into the mixing bowl. Add 1/3 cup of freshly grated parmesan cheese and 1/3 cup of mozzarella cheese. On the other hand you need to pour in freshly chopped herbs including Italian parsley, basil, thyme, oregano and savoury.

    Pour ingredients into the bread pan

    After mixing all the ingredients in the mixing bowl, you need to pour it on the greased bread pan. Take 8 ½ by 4 ½ by 2 ½ inch bread pan for this process.

    Bake

    Next you need to put the bread pan in the oven and bake it. Leave it in the oven for 45 minutes and set the temperature at 350°F. After taking it out, let it cool for five minutes and then serve.
