How to Make Popcorn Balls on a Stick

If you can make popcorn balls with the right quantity of ingredients, they can be one of the most fascinating holiday delights and are bound to prove popular with both children and adults. There is no rocket science involved, and it is simply the ingredients that help the popcorn balls stick together. The popcorn balls can be eaten as a snack and may also be draped over a Christmas tree with the help of string to enhance its appearance. As per your preference, the popcorn can be shaped into small or large balls. You can also store the popcorn balls for about a week or two in an airtight container. Utensils: 4 dozen toothpicks, cookie sheet, large bowl, non-stick butter cooking spray, pan, thermometer, bowl, spoon and a wooden spoon

Ingredients:
Popcorn: 1 packet
Sugar: 1 ¼ cup
Light corn syrup: ½ cup
Water: 2/3 cup
Butter: 1 tbsp
Brown sugar: 1 ¼ cup

    Place the popcorn in a large bowl

    The first step towards making popcorn balls on a stick is to pop about 3 ½ qt. of plain popcorn and place them in a large bowl. Then, using a non-stick cooking spray, you need to spray a cookie sheet.

    Add ingredients

    Grab a pan and place 1 ¼ cups each of brown sugar and sugar in it. You can now add ½ cup light corn syrup and 2/3 cup water to the mixture.

    Place the pan on the burner

    The pan needs to be set on a burner on the stove, with the burner on low to medium heat setting. As the mixture is getting heated, you need to stir it continuously. Add 1 tablespoon of butter after the sugar has dissolved.

    Check the temperature

    Keep stirring the mixture until it reaches 240 degrees F. In case you do not have a thermometer, take a little amount out with a spoon and drop it into a bowl of water. It will have reached the desired temperature if it forms a soft ball.

    Remove the mixture from the heat

    You can now pour the sugar mixture over the popcorn after removing it from the heat. Use a wooden spoon to toss the popcorn while you pour the mixture and distribute it evenly.

    Put the balls on a stick

    With a non-stick cooking spray, you need to spray the hands before shaping the popcorn into balls of the size of your preference. You can now use toothpicks and insert one into each popcorn ball before you allow them to cool down.
