Yield: 10 servings
Utensils: A large mixing bowl, a pastry blender or electric beater, stirring spoon, measuring cups, measuring spoons, oven.

Ingredients:
All purpose flour: 3 ½ to 4 cups
Sugar: 1 tbsp
Sctive dry yeast: 1 tbsp
Lukewarm water (100 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit): 1 ½ cups
Salt: 2 tsp
Onion (diced and divided): 1 large
Olive oil: 1 tbsp
Dried rosemary: 4 tsp
Coarse salt: 2 tsp

Instructions

  • 1

Mix one tablespoon sugar and one tablespoon active dry yeast in an electric mixer. If you don’t have an electric beater, you can mix the ingredients in a large mixing bowl as well.

  • 2

Add one and a half cup of water to this mixture and stir it well. Let this concoction stand for five minutes, or until yeast becomes slightly foamy.

  • 3

Add three cups of all purpose flour to this mixture and stir it using the electric beater. You can also use the dough hook of a stand mixer to mix it until it starts to come together.

  • 4

Add two teaspoons of salt to the dough. Also add half of the diced onion to the dough and stir again until it starts pulling away from the sides of the bowl.

  • 5

Keep stirring the dough until it forms a sticky ball.

  • 6

Take the dough out on a flat surface, dust it with some floor and knead it until smooth. Do not overwork the dough though, otherwise your bread will not be soft.

  • 7

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl.

  • 8

Cover the bowl with a plastic wrap and let the dough rise for 60 to 90 minutes, or until doubles in size.

  • 9

Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • 10

Also grease a baking pan (at least 12x18 inches) with olive oil.

  • 11

Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently and set it onto the greased pan.

  • 12

Apply some olive oil over the dough using a soft paint brush and press it down gently with fingertips to fit in the pan.

  • 13

Sprinkle coarse salt, dry rosemary and remaining onion slices.

  • 14

Allow the dough to rise again for 20 minutes before you put it into the preheated oven.

  • 15

    Bake for twenty minutes.

  • 16

Cool for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
