How to Make Teaching Literature Interesting

When it comes to teaching literature, most teachers face same trouble and that is the lack of interest from students. However, did you ever ask yourself why it is like that? Maybe it is the boring old method of teaching literature that distract youngsters.

Employing different techniques can really do the trick as these simple but effective methods will make your teaching interesting and keep your students engaged. All you need to do is to make them your friend and help them to develop special affinity for literature.

    Make class participation possible in this learning process. Divide the whole class in different groups and ask them to read a book and then share their thoughts with other class fellows. You can give them fun assignments and ask them to give presentations through posters, videos or enactment.

    Encourage them to write in their own words. Make them realise that literature is all about feeling things and expressing them in a unique manner. Do not expect too much from them as they have just begun. You should appreciate them for minor achievements. Arrange a competition at the end of month and announce “Writer of the month”. Assign them a case study and ask them to be in the shoes of that writer and say something about his/her style. In this way, they will really put extra effort to understand that character and its significance in that piece of literature.
