    Sand:

Use a 120-grit sandpaper to roughen up the area. Sanding makes sure that the paint sticks to the paneling. It will also level off any irregularities created by the filling up process. Use a vacuum to clear up the dust. A tack cloth will also do.

    Clean:

The surface on which paint is applied should be free of all kinds of grease and oil. Use a cleaner and a sponge to clean the paneling by wiping. After you are done, use a clean cloth to dry up the surface.

    Primer:

This is your glue which makes the paint adhere to the paneling. Therefore it should be of the highest quality. It is better to get an oil based primer because they are stronger and more durable than water based ones. Apply a layer primer on the paneling with an old brush or roller. It will prevent the paint from bleeding through.
