How to Prepare a Low Calorie Pizza

Pizza is the best gift which Italians have given to this world. It is however a junk food and excessive consumption can be dangerous for a person’s health. However, there are several ways in which you can make your delicious pizza, one that is low on calories.

One of the best ways to reduce the calories of your homemade pizza is reduce the thickness of the crust. Remember the rule of thumb – less crust is equal to less calories. Another easy and effective way to cut the calories of your pizza is to use light sprinkling of mozzarella cheese, and avoid cheddar or parmesan cheese.

Yield: 1 large pizza or 12 to 14 servings

Ingredients:
Warm water (110 degrees F.): 3/4 cup
Extra virgin olive oil: 1 tbsp
Salt: 1/4 tsp
Garlic (minced): 2 cloves
Dried basil leaves: 1 tsp
Dried oregano leaves: 1 tsp
Bread flour: 2 cups
Fast-rising active dry yeast: 2 tsp
Olive oil: 1 tbsp
Pizza sauce: as required
Toppings of your choice: as required
Mozzarella cheese: ½ cup

Instructions

    Put the top eight ingredients in the pan of a bread machine and process following the manufacturer’s instructions until you get smooth dough.

    Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Also prepare your favourite toppings for the low calorie pizza.

    Once the dough cycle is complete, the bread has to be removed from the pan. Now transfer it to a lightly oiled surface. Knead the dough thoroughly using the palms of your hands until it is soft and smooth.

    Transfer the dough to a clean bowl, lightly grease its top, cover with a moist towel and let it rest at room temperature for 8 to 10 minutes.

    Using a rolling pin, roll the dough into a 14-inch circle.

    Set the rolled dough in the prepared pizza pan, pour one tablespoon of olive oil on it and spread around with a brush.

    Spread your favourite pizza sauce onto the dough and layer other ingredients like, chicken, olives, onions, tomato, pepperoni, or whatever you like.

    Sprinkle one cup of grated mozzarella cheese and bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

    Remove the pizza from oven; allow it to cool a bit before slicing. Serve hot.
