How to Reduce Paint Smells

Freshly painted walls are a delight for the sight. A new paint job certainly changes things, mostly in a positive way, unless you manage some sort of disaster. However, just like other good things in life, it comes with a cost. The hassle of emptying rooms and moving furniture to cleanly paint is a known field for those who had a pint redo in their lives.  There is however, another thing that many others find equally irritating. It is the paint smell. The smell can make you stay away from those painted walls you wanted even after days. For those with nasal allergies, the smell is an added torture. The horror list goes on. But fortunately, we have own solutions for such depressing situations. There are some simple tips that you can use to drive away the smell quickly so that you can enjoy your new walls without having to put up with the odour.

    Open rooms:

    When you start painting, keep the doors and windows of the room open. This way the air will circulate and drive away the paint smell. Turn on any fans that you have installed around. The air created will push the smell outward. If you have rotating fans, direct them towards exit points.

    Vanilla extract:

    This wonderful solution from your kitchen is used widely for this purpose. Add a spoon full of vanilla extract to each gallon of paint that you are using and stir it inside to mix it well. This reduces the odour of the paint with its delightful scent. If you are worried about the colour of the extract affecting the paint, you can use lemon extract for lighter colours.

    Charcoal treatment:

    Charcoal can be used to absorb the bad smell around the room. Crush some charcoal using a hammer. Now place it in a bucket over wet rags and leave it overnight in the painted area. The charcoal will absorb the odour. When you remove the bucket, it will take away most of the smell with itself. You can eliminate the rest using an air freshener of your favourite scent.

    Vinegar treatment:

    Among its numerous uses in almost everywhere around the house, vinegar also helps against bad odours. Take an open plate. Place a white bread slice over it. Pour some vinegar on the bread to soak it and leave it in the room. The bread will absorb the smell like a sponge.
