How to Repair a Watch Band

It is natural for a watch band to become damaged over time. In such a case, you would want to get the band replaced with a new one or at least get it repaired. Although it sounds like something a professional should do, you can follow a simple technique to repair the watch band yourself.

Things Required:

– Spring bar tool
– Round-headed pin
– Callipers
– New watch band

Instructions

  • 1

Use the callipers to determine the width of the band, in millimetres, at the point where the band connects to the watch, and the band’s length, in inches. If it is a leather band you are repairing, it would be alright to measure the band at the connection point in inches.

  • 2

Depending on the dimensions of your old watch band, purchase a new watch band. It would be best to choose a new band made of the same material as the old one. However, this is not necessary, and you can also choose a new watch band of any desired material.

  • 3

Slide a spring bar tool into the space on either side of the spring bar connecting the band to the watch and compress the bar until it pops out of the holes holding it in place. Repeat the same process for the second bar as well.

  • 4

Clean the lug holes with a round-headed pin. Lug holes are the holes that hold the spring bar ends in place. This will ensure that the new band will stay in place for a longer period of time.

  • 5

Insert the spring bar into one of the new band ends and slide the spring bar into the correct lug hole. Check if the other end of the spring bar goes into the hole. If not, compress it with the spring bar tool, set it in place and release the pressure on the spring bar tool.
