Suppose you have detected tax fraud being committed by someone, note down their name, address (both work and home), tax ID number or social security number. Be ready to explain the alleged fraud in the forms while reporting to the IRS, as your comments will help the officials investigate the crime more effectively.
You do not need to go to the IRS office in person to get a form to report false tax. Visit the IRS website and you have several categories and different forms for each type of fraud.
Here are some of the forms you may need to fill out. You can choose one you think addresses fraud you have detected:
- Form 3949-A: If you have spotted false exemptions or deductions , kickbacks, failure to pay tax, failure to withhold, organized tax evasion or crime, unreported income in financial statements, and false documents.
- Form 14039: If you suspect somebody has stolen your ID and is using your social security number for job.
- Form 14157: If you spot a fraudulent tax scheme being run by a tax practitioner—individual or a company.
