How to Search for a New Job

Have you been off from work for a long time lately and are looking to find a job. Although the general idea is that it is very tough to find a job but that is a misconception if you know how and where to look for a job.

Either you can use the conventional methods such as attending professional events, filling out job applications or contacting job agencies to see if they have a job available or not. The other and more appropriate approach is to use the internet. Every company has a ‘careers’ tab on their website. Try looking for job opportunities on the websites of different companies.

    The first thing you need to do is to create a personal website. You need to upload your updated resume on the website. Highlight details about any previous work experience that you may have and also list your educational background in the website.

    Uploading samples of your work on the website would be a good idea. For instance, if  you are looking for a job as a web designer, you may paste a link of any web pages that you may have published in the past as a sample.

    Make sure that you do not publish information such as your street address, your cell phone number etc. on the website because people may misuse it. Only an email ID should be good enough contact information.

    Make profiles on social networking websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin etc. This will increase your professional exposure and you will have better chances of finding a job relatively quickly. Also provide of your website on these pages.

    Posting an advertisement in a couple of local newspaper is a great thing to do when looking for a job. Although this would cost you money but if you are able to find a job through a newspaper advertisement, you will eventually get your money’s worth. Continue to run the add for at least a couple of weeks.

    There are numerous websites on the internet that help you find a job. These include websites such as Monster, Indeed, Simply Hired and Career Builder etc. Post your resume on as many websites as possible.

    Another idea which may work is to spread the word amongst friends. Tell your close friends that you are looking for a job. The may be able to use personal references and you may find yourself working sooner than you think.
