Understand your target audience
Analyse your audience or the target market. Unless you know a bit of background of your potential customers’ needs and preferences, you cannot come up with the right keywords for your website.
For instance, what do you write on Google search bar when you want to buy a mobile phone on the Internet? You will try to write natural phrases like “buy mobile phone” or mobile phone service.” There could be literally hundreds of similar phrases that you normally use on search bar to get your desired results.
Understand the background of your industry
How can you come with the right selection of SEO keywords if you don’t know much about the niche you are competing in? So, gain some know-how of your industry, its products/services, etc.
Search the leading websites
You should visit the websites of your industry by using some generic keywords on Google. And once you find the top websites, visit their pages and see how they have covered the keywords on their title tags, Meta description, Meta keywords and content.
Focus on uncommon keywords
This is an effective strategy for newbies. Since new webmasters whose website is not old enough, cannot compete the leaders on common keywords, it is wise to choose the most natural yer novel keywords. Think about different phrases that a user may type in the search bar.
