The most important rule is to slow down. Take in small bites and chew slowly. Those people, who eat fast, tend to eat more. It doesn't give the brain a chance to recognize that you are full. Try to stay away from finger foods as they get finished quickly and give you the feeling that you have eaten less. Keep in mind to use small plates instead of eating from a dish. Keep drinking water throughout the day as it will also keep you full and hydrated. Make healthier choices like eating salads as they will keep you full for longer without adding on extra pounds.

Try to analyze your eating pattern. Are you an emotional eater or not? If you eat under stress or pressure to distract yourself, you are in for trouble. Try to keep yourself occupied in other healthy activities like walking or some other hobby. If you were habitual of eating junk in earlier life, you are prone to seeking comfort from it now. Your focus should be on solving the problem instead of hiding from it by diving into tubs of ice-cream or Mac n cheese. You also need to consider your social eating habits. Make plans which revolve around other activities besides food. If you plan a get together, eating shouldn't be its main purpose.
