How to Turn Android Into a Strobe Light

The Android platform has over 600,000 apps available for download through the official Google Play Store. Developers have come up with applications which utilize a device’s hardware for a wide variety of features. While many of us may want to use our devices as flash lights in the dark, there are apps which bring several other lighting features which can be both useful and fun to use.

Instructions

  • 1

Connect your device to a network for Internet and run the Google Play Store app from the app drawer or your home screen.

  • 2

Search for an application called ‘Tiny Flashlight + LED’, developed by ‘Nikolay Ananiev’. Download and install the app (it is a free application).

  • 3

Run the Tiny Flashlight app from the Play Store or the app drawer.

  • 4

The main screen will have a battery indicator at the top (percentage battery left), a large, circular Power button in the middle and a warning at the bottom (Continuous use may reduce battery life).

  • 5

If you tap the Power button, the app will work as a flash light, using either your device’s built-in flash (next to the camera lens) or turning your screen brightness to full and displaying a flash white to assist visibility in the dark.

  • 6

However, there is a small circle at the top right corner of the main screen. Tapping the circle gives you additional options. Tap it to proceed.

  • 7

The next screen will have several icons which enable various functions such as the screen light, a Morse code feature (very interesting), warning lights, custom color lights, police lights and strobe lights.

  • 8

Tap the second icon from the first column to enable the strobe light feature.

  • 9

The strobe light window will have two sliders in the middle (and the top right circle which you can tap to go back to the selection window). The first slider (from the left) handles the duration of flashes. If it is at the bottom end, the duration of a flash will be longer and you can slide it all the way up to shorten it.

  • 10

The second slider controls the frequency of flashes. The higher you move it, the more times your LED will flash.

  • 11

If you move both sliders all the way up, the duration of flashes will be reduced and the frequency increased, which will resultantly make your LED go on and off very quickly.
