How to Use a Bullseye Lantern

Bullseye lanterns were used in the 13th century by hunters, horse riders and watchmen etc to light up the night. The lantern was called bullseye lantern because the shape of its lens resembles a bull’s eye. This lens was made of plastic or glass in order to focus the beam of light. Today these lanterns are merely manufactured or used for illumination purposes. However, you might have seen these lanterns in some restaurants etc, where they are used for the purposes of decoration only. More modern forms of these lanterns come with batteries and an easy-to-turn-on switch.

    Firstly open the cover of the wick. The wick will be enclosed in a small can with a door. Open this door. As you will open it, it will pop out to expose the wick clearly.

    Next locate the screws of the wick that are attached to the oil container. Remove these with the help of a screwdriver. Once that is done, take out the oil container and carefully pour the lamp oil in the container.

    Now that you have filled the oil container, screw back the wick and the oil container in their place.

    Next leave the wick in the oil for the next 20 minutes.

    Once the wick gets fully dipped in the oil, it will be ready to be lit. With the help of a match stick carefully light the wick. Once you light the lantern, carefully close the door of the wick container.
