How to Use Essential Oils in Your Laundry

You have an option to use natural laundry items when washing your clothes. Essential oils, which can be used for many purposes, usually consist of Lavender or Lemon oils are effective in washing your clothes to provide a fresh scent to them.

You need to use unscented detergent for this purpose so that you can add a few drops of essential oil to it for the smell. The fabric softener can also be made with the help of combining white vinegar with the oils.

– Unscented laundry detergent
– White vinegar

    Combing the essential oil with detergent

    First of all, to prepare the washing powder for your clothes you need to combine some essential oil with some unscented laundry detergent. Make sure that the detergent you are using is unscented otherwise essential oils will not have the desired effect. The quantity of essential oil depends on the amount of detergent you take. For a small detergent bottle, a few drops of oil are good.

    Prepare a fabric softener by adding oil to vinegar

    You can make fabric softener in bulk and use the liquid in your regular washing sessions. The standard quantity would be to add about 30 drops of essential oil to a gallon of white vinegar. Shake the mixture and keep it stored in a bottle. You can use a cup for every regular wash.

    Wash clothes

    Use the washing powder and fabric softener to wash the clothes. Make sure you use the right quantities of both the materials and use them in accordance with the clothes you are washing. Do not add any other liquid such as bleach in the washer as you may damage your clothes in this process.

    Use essential oil on a cotton cloth when drying

    When you have washed the clothes and have placed them in the dryer, sprinkle a few drops of the essential oil on a small cotton cloth and place it in with the other clothes. Run the dryer on the time you usually set it to. But when the clothes are dry after the first session, run the dryer again on ‘no heat’ this time so that the scent of the essential oil sets in your clothes completely.
