How to Wind a Ball of Yarn

Do you currently have a skein of yarn which is hard to keep track of? Do you think that it has grown a lot in size and you want to do something about it? Well, that is not an issue. Yarn balls are considered to be an old-fashioned way to get rid of such problems. The following steps are going to help you get rid of this issue within no time. However, you have to follow them closely and make sure that you end up tidying up the unrecognizable mess that the yarn ball has grown into.

Instructions

  • 1

To start off, grab the yarn in your hand if you can. Make sure that all of it can fit into both your palms. Now pick up a single point from one corner and start untangling it. Make sure that you can untangle the yarn as much as you can. This will later come in handy while you are making the yarn ball, as tangled yarn cannot do you much good.

  • 2

You will notice how there are several knots in the yarn. Make sure that you loosen up all those knots and untie them. Also make sure that while you are trying to untie them, you don’t end up splitting the yarn into two or more pieces.

  • 3

Now once the whole yarn has been untangled, make sure that you start from one corner of the yarn before you start making loops.

  • 4

Start wrapping the yarn around your fingers. Keep wrapping it in the same direction and make sure there are no knots in between.

  • 5

Once proper loops form around your fingers, take them out and hold them in your hand.

  • 6

Now start wrapping the yarn around the loops which you have made.

  • 7

Keep wrapping the yarn until it takes a football-like shape. Soon you will have to switch positions so that the yarn doesn’t start slipping out.

  • 8

Grab the football shape between your fingers and thumb and let the remaining untangled yarn hang from one end.

  • 9

Now start wrapping the yarn lengthwise. You will notice that once you continue with this step your yarn ball will take a more rounded shape as compared to before.

  • 10

After every fifteen to twenty rounds, keep changing sides so that there are absolutely no knots or tangles in your yarn ball.

  • 11

You will notice that once you are close to finishing the yarn ball, it will be absolutely round with no knots or tangles in it.
