It has been long that the last time you wrote a leave application. As you tried you remember, you came to know that it was way back in school that you wrote a leave application to your School Head asking for leaves when you had to prepare for board examinations. Nevertheless, now you are at your work place and need to take leave for some reasons. Just like you had to keep in view the leave policies while writing a leave application at school, in the same way you have to consider the leave policies set by your organization. Hence while writing an official leave letter there are only a few things that you need to take care of.

Write your name in the first line followed by the job title, department, address and phone number one by one in the following lines.
Leaving one line space after writing your details, write the date at which you are writing this application making sure that the date is correct.
Now mention the name of your boss or supervisor followed by his designation, the name of department and company’s name address and contact number in the same way as above.
Again leaving one line space, write down the subject which should be bold and underlined and should hint the reason for your leave.
After the subject, give some space to give salutations writing Sir or Madam or simply write To Whom It May Concern if you don't know the name of the recipient.
As you start the main body of your leave letter, get straight to the point putting up the leave request without writing any long introduction.
Mention the dates on which you will not be available in the office with the date of return and the person who may be contacted during your absence.
While ending your letter, write some courteous words or sentences as a sign of appreciation for your boss and the organization in a professional way.
