List of Vineyards in Ottawa

A vineyard or wine farm is a plantation dedicated to the growing of grapes. While these are mainly aimed at the production of wine, they can be used for other purposes as well. A winery on the other hand, is a building or property that is involved in the production of wine, and mainly requires grapes for the process.

While wine making is known to be practiced since 5000-6000 BC, the techniques have greatly improved over time. Viticulture (the growing of vineyards) has now become more of a science, with advanced methods which result in greater and higher quality yields.

Believe it or not, Ottawa, an area that is better known for cold winters and cross country skiing, actually houses quite a few vineyards and wineries. While the region may not be very encouraging for grape growing, vineyards here culture special varieties which can withstand the weather and provide good quality fruit. Wine that is produced locally offers locals and visitors the opportunity to try an organically grown, high quality blend.
