Medical Hardship Letter

There are various cases when employees suffer severe illness and are unable to join work. These medical conditions sometimes result in very expensive treatments which are unaffordable for the individual. In these cases, an employee can request his company to pay the expenses of the treatment by writing a Medical Hardship Letter.

The first paragraph should mention clearly the employee’s designation at the company and the time period he has been at the organization. In the second paragraph, the details of the illness should be mentioned and the time the treatment would take.

The remaining body of the letter should involve the request of the individual to the company to pay for the expenses for the time being. There should also be a mention as to how the amount would be paid back and in what time frame.

    To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing in reference to my worsening medical condition in the past few months. It is stated that I have been a part of your company for the past 1 year at the post of Sales Manager and have been honest in fulfilling my duties.

I wanted to bring it to your notice that I was recently diagnosed with Lung Cancer. Fortunately, it is still at a very early stage and is curable. The doctor has advised me a best rest for three months so that my treatment is done.

I cannot afford the cost of the treatment as it requires huge payments initially. I request that the company bears my medical expenses for my cancer treatment. I will definitely pay back the due amount once I return to my duties in monthly instalments.

I am looking forward to a positive response from your side, hoping that you understand the situation.

    Yours sincerely,
