Start off by cleaning the potatoes. There is no need to peel them. Cover the potatoes with water, placed on a kettle. Bring the water to a boil. It will take around one hour for the first one to break easily. In the mean time, mix together malt and around 2 liter of water. The yeast should be hydrated. Then take out the potatoes and mash them. It will appear to be like porridge.

Now turn the temperature of the kettle to 60 degrees. Put the mashed potatoes back in the kettle. Put in 1/3 malt and mix it. When the temperature goes down to 55 degrees, put in the remaining malt and stir again. Let it remain in the kettle for around 2 hours and keep stirring in between. After two hours turn off the hotplate and put the kettle in a cool place. When the temperature decreases to 25 degree, transfer it to the fermenter and also put in the yeast. After 1-2 hours, bubbles will appear. It takes around two days for fermentation and it can be distilled after four days.

Hot plates, wooden fire or gas burners are used to distill. Distillation should be done to reach alcohol level of around 90 percent. Potato flavor is only in traces. After adding distilled water the level will reach 43 percent. Let it stand in air for a day before putting it in a bottle. Remember to give the bottle a shake daily. This will enhance the flavor of the vodka.
