Leaving your church can be a heart wrenching experience. The reason behind the move can be anything but in most cases, people leave a ministry because they are moving or do not like the direction the church is taking. When leaving a church some people create a fuss and can be giving negative comments about the church to the pastor and members of the congregation. Others just quietly move on with out mentioning their departure to any one else. The best way to leave a church is to write a letter to the minister about your decision. This will allow you to get certificates from the church and let the administration update their records.

Dear Pastor,
It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to you today to inform you of my departure from your congregation. I will be moving to California with my family because I have accepted a new job in the state.
I have grown a lot spiritually during my last 10 years with the church. Your leadership and sermons have always inspired me and helped me be a better person. I have made really good friends at the church and will miss them all. Sunday, October 5th will be my last day as a member and It will be a very sad day for me.
I would appreciate if you could recommend any church in my new location that is having similar ideas to your church. I would appreciate your help in that matter and a letter from you confirming my attendance at this church would be appreciated.
Thanks and much Love,

Dear Father,
I have decided to conclude my relationship with Saint Mary’s church and will be moving to Saint Nicholas church in downtown. I will not be attending any more sermons with the congregation starting from December 2.
I have had a lot of positive experiences over the 5 years I have spent as a part of your flock. I have felt a great accomplishment in the many humanitarian and Christian activities I have taken part in with this church. However, I have been sourly disappointed with the direction this church and its leaders are taking for the last few months. I do not think that I can be part of a church that is rejecting the teaching of the holly bible by accepting new members that have un-acceptable sexual orientation.
I would like you to issue me a letter that states my membership at this church to date so that I can send it to the leaders at my newly chosen church.
Thanks you
Gerard Guetta
