Sample of a Parental Leave Letter

For parents, children are usually the most important thing in their lives. This can make life difficult for mothers and fathers who also have full time careers. Juggling parenting with a job can be a tough task because an employee will need to choose on some occasions between work and their children. Parents who can afford it will either opt for daycare or a nanny but may still run into a situation where their personal attention is required. This can include events like school plays, doctors visits, sickness and parent teacher conferences. In order to fulfill these commitments, working parents will need to take a parental leave. The best way to acquire such a day off is to send a parental leave letter to your manger for approval.

    RE: PARENTAL LEAVE LETTER

    Dear Sir,

As you know from our conversation last week, both my son and daughter have contracted the Chicken Pox. I would like to request a 5 day parental leave to take care of them until they recover. I will need days off starting from Number 26 to December 1.

Since my husband is a pilot, he is not always at home, making it difficult for me to leave my children at home sick all alone. While I am away on leave I will need someone from the office, preferably Sarah Miller, to look after my work. I have spoken with her and explained the tasks that need to be completed.

I hope to get a positive response from you.

    Yours faithfully,

    Dear Mr. King,

I would like to request a 1 day parental leave to take my son to the orthodontist. He is scheduled to have braces put in by the dentist on April 3rd. I will be back in the office on April 4th.

As you know, I am a single parent and cannot send my child alone with someone else because he will not feel comfortable going for such a large procedure without me by his side. I hope that you understand my obligation and approve my leave.

I will make sure that my projects are not affected in any way during my 1 day leave. However, in case something does come up, I can be reached on my cell phone any time during the day.

    Thank You!
