If you plan of leaving your church, you must make sure that you leave on good terms. This is necessary if you wish to get all the proper documentation to present to your new church. In most cases, you will be required to submit a letter to the church formally announcing your departure. A letter to leave church is needed because most congregations do not have written regulations that govern members leaving. The letter should be courteous and state clearly that you want to disassociate from the church. This is necessary for the leadership of the congregation to issue you a letter of transfer or a certificate of standing.

I would appreciate it if you could recommend any churches in my new location that are similar to your church. I would appreciate your help in that matter and a letter from you confirming my attendance at your church would be appreciated.
Thanks and much Love,

Dear (Pastor/Father),
I have decided to conclude my relationship with (Name of old church) church and will be moving to (Name of new Church)church in downtown. I will not be attending any more sermons with the congregation starting from (Last day at church).
I have had a lot of positive experiences over the (number of years at church) I have spent as a part of your flock. However, I have been sourly disappointed with the direction the church and its leaders are taking for the last few months. I do not think that I can be part of a church that is rejecting the teaching of the bible by (Clearly state the reason for leaving).
I would like you to issue me a letter that states my membership at the church to date so that I can send it to the leaders at my newly chosen church.
Thank you
