Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers in Nashville, Tennessee

Nashville, Tennessee is home to several of the most caring and effective alcohol and drug treatment centers in the nation. The process of recovery often requires a safe, understanding environment for you or your loved one, in order to concentrate on beginning a new way of living sober. Two such facilities are described here.

Cumberland Heights Alcohol and Drug Treatment Center

The main campus of Cumberland Heights occupies a beautiful 177-acre farm along the Cumberland River, about a 20-minute drive west of Nashville. A 24-hour intake/admissions number makes accessing information easy (615-646-9998).

The oldest facility of its kind in Tennessee, this treatment center has been providing help to individuals with chemical addictions since 1966. Cumberland Heights is licensed by the State of Tennessee, and accredited by the prestigious U.S. Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

With many programs offered, Cumberland Heights seeks to tailor the treatment program to the needs of the individual:

  • Residential Services-At the main campus, individuals receive the best possible 24-hour care, living in modern well-maintained dormitories for a typical 28-day program. In-house physicians, nurses, and other trained and experienced counselors work together to make the resident’s stay as meaningful as possible.
  • A separate Women’s Program is offered, to meet the special needs of the female struggling with alcohol or chemical dependency.
  • An Adolescent Program utilizes the dynamics of a setting with other teens going through many of the same experiences. The small group size (about a dozen or so), ensures that your loved one will receive excellent personal attention.
  • The Aftercare Program allows the resident to build upon the foundation of the residential treatment program, by returning as often as possible for up to a year.
  • First Step is a program lasting up to two weeks, in which the medical detoxification needs of the individual are addressed. As in all the programs offered at Cumberland Heights, group and individual therapy are woven into this treatment program also. Transition into outpatient services and aftercare reinforce the effectiveness of this program.
  • Outpatient Services (615-353-4305) operate every day of the week, with individual and group therapy, and are conveniently located at 145 Thompson Lane not far from downtown Nashville. Adolescents from the age of 13 up, and adults alike can come to this location for age-appropriate care. Family members whose lives are affected by the addictions of a loved one can find support here as well. In many cases, the intake counselor will recommend outpatient care for a period of time first, especially for adolescents.
  • The Family Program supports the parents, spouses, or partners of the residential-care individual. This consists of a two-day program for First-Step residents, a week-long program for the family members of longer-care residents, and weekly group meetings for family members.

People from every walk of life are welcome at Cumberland Heights. Restoring the dignity and respect of each individual seeking help with addiction is the hallmark of this organization. More information can be found at www.cumberlandheights.org.

Turning Point Recovery Residence, Inc.

Some individuals who have taken the first step toward recovery from drug or alcohol dependence, require a longer-term living arrangement to help make the transition to “normal life”. The halfway houses operated by Turning Point in Nashville meet such a need.

Founded in 1997 with one house, this organization has grown to include two halfway houses for men, and one for women. Returning to work is emphasized, as well as contributing to all the daily living tasks that a group home necessitates. The strict house rules are balanced by each home’s caring residential counselor, with just the right amount of personal accountability. Regular closed group sessions in each home continue the recovery process.

All is not work at Turning Point, however. Outings to stock-car races, bowling and other sports activities, picnics, and an annual awards program round out the lives of those residing at Turning Point.
