Apartment Guide for Washington State University Students

Pullman Washington is a medium-sized city in a rural setting, where the closest metropolitan is 100 miles away. The city is quite diverse in regards to the people and the landscape. Furthermore the city can be considered a true college town because the university’s student body is 90% of the total city’s population. Looking for a place to live in Pullman can become a difficult task, whereby most students decide to remain on campus.

The city of Pullman can be divided into several areas. The first area is aptly named Fraternity Row. The area is located near the main bookstore, on the north end of campus. However, if you are a student looking for some peace and quiet, you might want to look further. WSU is well known for being a party school and the majority of the partying occurs in these small confines.

Another section of Pullman that is known for its all-night parties is an area called College Hill. This area is located in the Northwest part of town. Simply follow Stadium Way north, past Grand Ave and it’s the residential area at the top of the hill. The rent in this area is very affordable but vacancies are limited. Visit www.hillapts.com to get more information about rentals in this area.

However, if you prefer something with a slower heartbeat then try looking in the south part of town. This area is located near the new Pullman Memorial Hospital. The rent is more expensive but is also much more quieter and in close proximity to many of the city’s businesses.

Another section of town that one might find solace is in Northeast part of town, near Pullman High School. The community is new and expanding, which is apparent from the construction of new apartments. I especially like this part of town because the buildings are fairly spaced apart and some dwellings offer great views of the rolling hills in the back drop. Dabco Property Management has many offerings in this area, so visit them on the web at www.dabcomgmt.com.

But if you are a student who wishes to remain on campus, there are many inexpensive options that offer convenience, such as a short walk to class. The on-campus apartments can be classified by price and also can be classified by situational factors. For instance, you must be married or have children to live in the Yakima Village, which by the way is the most expensive rent on-campus. A bonus for living on-campus is that the university will pay for most of the utilities, such as water, trash, and cable TV. Furthermore, high speed internet is offered at a low rate of $10/month. More information regarding on-campus housing can be found at www.livingat.wsu.edu/hdrl.

The city of Pullman has something for everyone. Rental rates across the board are inexpensive but the housing demand is much larger than the housing supply so finding the right place may take some time and due diligence. Also, most apartments fill their vacancies near the start of each semester so it may be advantageous to rent something weeks or months before school begins.
