Review of the Arm and Hammer Fridge-n-Freezer Pack

Arm & Hammer, a company owned by Church & Dwight, got it’s start in 1834 when Dr. Austin Church decided to produce sodium bicarbonate on a commercial scale, rather than stay at his medical practice.

Arm & Hammer has been around for over 155 years, and when I think of their baking soda I picture a small yellow/orange box. Baking soda is good for many things such as cleaning and removing odors. Arm & Hammer makes laundry soaps, carpet deodorizers, toothpastes, and even cat litter deodorizers. If they can help with cat litter odor, they can certainly help with any smells associated with spills or outdated food in my refrigerator!

The Fridge-n-Freezer Pack came on the market in 1999, and looks similar to a standard sized box of Arm & Hammer baking soda. There are two panels on this box, one on the front and one on the back. There is a small red tab that says “remove panel”. When you lift it up, the panel, which is perforated, tears right off. With the panels removed, a thin breathable fabric liner, (it looks like interfacing for those ladies who sew) prevents the contents from spilling out. This creates a flo-through vent that allows air to flow over it, giving twice the freshening and odor removing power that an open box of baking soda would give.

Sodium bicarbonate (or baking soda), balances pH levels. When it comes into contact with something that is either too acidic or too alkaline, it will buffer, or neutralize the pH.

The box contains one full pound of pure Arm & Hammer baking soda. They recommend that you replace this in your fridge or freezer every three months, and even give you a handy replace by section to fill in at the bottom so you can keep track of how long it has been in use. (I don’t know about you, but I definitely need a reminder!!)

The Arm & Hammer website has this to say about their product:

This hard-working spill-proof box helps keep your food tasting like it should. The removable front and back panels let air flow through the box (without messy spills!) for maximum freshening power in your refrigerator, freezer, or any enclosed space where odors tend to linger (like your microwave and closets!). To keep everything fresh, make sure to change your Fridge-n-Freezer box every 3 months.

When it’s time to replace the Fridge-n-Freezer with a fresh box, Arm & Hammer recommends that you not use the old baking soda for anything since the odors it has absorbed will change it’s taste. They suggest that you pour it down the sink to freshen your drains.

This product works great! The entire time this box has been in my fridge (and I assure you it is longer than 3 months), there have been no odors at all. If you are not happy with the product, Arm & Hammer has a money back guarantee and you can simply call the toll free number on their box and speak with a representative.

I trust the Arm & Hammer name, and I know that their products do absorb odors. The invention of the Fridge-n-Freezer Pack makes it very easy for consumers to use, without worrying about any baking soda spilling out of the box. The cost is so reasonable, at $1.79 a box, there is no reason not to use this product! This gets two thumbs up!
