How to Cook Quinoa in the Microwave

Quinoa is one of the most delicious and healthiest ingredients which were used by the ancient Incas. It is quite similar to couscous or rice but it is not like a grain. Mostly, it is cooked in a frying pan, but you can also cook it in a microwave, if you are pressed for time. Serve it in any way you prefer, with accompaniments of your choice – it works great in both salads and stews.

Utensils: Blender or food processor, strainer (optional), bowl, spoons, spatula, microwave safe bowl, lid or plastic wrap, pot holders or oven mitts and measuring cups.

Ingredients:
Uncooked quinoa: 1 cup
Water (or chicken broth): 2 cups

    First of all, take some cold water in a bowl and rinse the quinoa in it. Make sure that every particle of the quinoa is rinsed thoroughly with the water.

    Then, you have to place the rinsed quinoa in a bowl containing around two cups of water or broth. Cover the bowl with it lid and place it in the microwave oven. The microwave dish must be deep so that it gives proper room to the quinoa as it cooks on high heat. It is also extremely important for you to cover the dish loosely with its lid, so do not neglect this step.

    Cook the quinoa in the microwave for at least three minutes. Then, take it out of the microwave and mix it will the help of a spoon. Put it aside for about a minute and then place it back in the microwave. Cook it again for around three more minutes. When you see a white ring forming around the bowl, it means that the quinoa is almost ready. However, if it there is no white ring, then add around 2 more tablespoons of water or broth, and place it in the microwave again, to cook for at least one more minute.

    Take the quinoa out of the microwave and put it aside for around one and a half minute to cool down. Make sure that all the water/broth has been absorbed by the quinoa. Mix the quinoa with the spatula and then add in whichever ingredients you want. Serve as per your preferences, and enjoy.
