8 Reasons to Visit Louisville

The “Keep Louisville Weird” slogan and campaign began here, on Bardstown Road and Baxter Avenue. From world class dive bars to exquisite dining, this street has plenty to do in the early morning to the late, late night.

The award winning pizza at Wicks and Tony Boombaz pizza places will keep you and a table of friends happy until you are stuffed. Wicks is home of the “The Big Wick” and Tony Boombaz has several international award winning pizzas.

The Outlook Inn on the corner of Christy Avenue and Baxter Avenue is a brilliant little place to go have a cheap drink and play a game of pool after you finish your delicious pies. The staff is very friendly and the selection on tap is superb.

If, for dinner, you were feeling like something a little more upscale of diverse, check out Jack Frys for a completely unique eating experience. The near fine dining menu has a large selection. From steaks to great dessert it is the perfect place for a date.

After dinner I would head down to Heine Brother Coffee house or Highland Coffee for a latte or espresso. They both have wonderfully brewed small batch coffee and the pastries and Kizito cookies are amazing.

For the late night in the Highlands area I would check out Cahoots or The Back Door. Both bars are insanely affordable and the drinks are some of the strongest that I’ve ever had. The Back Door has a wonderful pool room and has been featured in magazines like Maxim and FHM. Cahoots is a very eclectic bar with a dark, edgy atmosphere.

For another Treat you could always go to the new and exciting Cafe 360, a hookah lounge and eatery where you can get the best biscuits and gravy ever made and watch a beautiful belly-dancer.

The best thing about this area could be the cheap drinks. This could also be the worst thing. So regardless of what you plan to do with weekend in Louisville, you can always wake up early and go to Twig and Leaf Diner on lower Bardstown Road for a great late morning brunch and a cup of coffee or you could take a walk in any of our beautiful parks in the Highlands. It is easy to find plenty to see and do without having to venture to far or pay too much.

So, whether you have a lot of money for the weekend or just 20 bucks, it is really easy to have a great time in this fun, one of a kind neighborhood.
