Champlain Centre North – Plattsburgh’s Premier Shopping Destination

Champlain Centre North was originally built in 1987 by the Pyramid Management Group, a privately owned retail developer and management firm headquarted in Syracuse, NY.

A popular destination for area residents, visitors to the North Country and cross-border (Canadian) shoppers, Champlain Centre draws its audience from locations as far as Montreal, Quebec – Burlington, Vermont – the Tri-Lakes Area and further South towards Lake George.

Champlain Centre’s five anchor stores include:
– Best Buy
– Dick’s Sporting Goods
– Gander Mountain
– JCPenney
– Sears

Other popular retailers include:
– Aeropostale
– American Eagle Outfitters
– Borders Books & Music
– Christopher & Banks
– CJ Banks
– Deb
– Gap Outlet
– Hot Topic
– Maurices
– Old Navy

Lots of exciting events take place at the mall throughout the year, such as seasonal Fashion Shows, the arrival of the Easter Bunny & Santa Claus, Trick-or-Treating at Halloween and much more. Many not-for-profit businesses also use the mall venue as a location to promote their organization and conduct important fundraising & awareness events.

Shopping at the mall is an American pasttime enjoyed by all age groups. The simplicity of one-stop-shopping makes it incredibly convenient, especially during the holidays. However, at any time of the year, consumers can purchase mall gift cards which allow their gift recipient freedom to choose exactly what they want without confing them to just one store.

Malls thrive on their tenant mix, and as customer preferences change, having the right balance of shops that appeal to a broad audience can make or break a location. Champlain Centre is always looking at ways to improve their shoppers’ experience, and later this year they will be welcoming three new stores to their line up: Journey’s, NY & Company and Victoria’s Secret.

With the improving exchange rates for Canadian tourists, there hasn’t been a better time to make a day-trip for shopping and fun at Champlain Centre. This mall is very well known in the Quebec marketplace and since approximately 70% of the stores at the mall are not currently available in Canada, it’s a huge draw. New York State recently voted to drop its statewide sales tax on clothing & footwear purchases up to $110, which means that instead of paying 7.75% sales tax (Clinton County) on select retail items, buyers only have to pay 3.75%. Compare that to the 15% sales tax rate in Canada and you can immediately see why making a trip to Plattsburgh is very worthwhile for our neighbors to the North. Not to mention that our gas prices in the U.S. are still lower in cost than the per litre charges Canadians must pay.

So, if you’re planning a visit to Plattsburgh, NY or the surrounding area, be sure to make time to drop by Champlain Centre North. You’ll definitely be glad that you did!
