Heeping Your House Odor Free

I love those commercials for air fresheners and candles. They make it seem like it is as easy as a spray or lighting a candle and your house smells wonderful.

Things are quite that simple or very hard either. There are plenty of natural ways to keep your house smelling fresh and clean.

The first rule of thumb is to keep your house clean. A clean house smells better. Vacuuming and dusting on a regular basis will help keep down musty and dirty smells. Ensure there are no places that collect mold and mildew. These can add bad smells to your home. Keeping your house clean goes a long way in helping it smell better.

Keep those pet odors down. We have all walked into a house and are hit by that doggy or cat smell. These can be unpleasant to say the least. Avoid these odors by cleaning up after your pet as soon as the accident happens. Clean the litter boxes on a regular basis, daily is best. If you can’t clean the litter box, consider a self-cleaning cat box. Keep your pet clean as well. Bathing Fido and brushing them on a regular basis will cut down on dander and a house full of fur. They will smell better and have less of that doggy smell to pass off to your home.

Have your carpet cleaned on a regular basis. If you have a carpet shampooer use it and use it as often as needed. Carpets are known to capture odors. Once the carpet and carpet padding absorbs that order it is hard to get out. Cleaning the carpets on a regular basis will help your carpets maintain their beauty as well as help them smell their best.

If you want your home to have that inviting and warming smell start cooking and baking. Having the smell of freshly baked bread wafting around your home will make anyone hungry for what’s in the kitchen. You can also set a warm pan of water on the stove to simmer spices. Cinnamon, cloves and ginger will give you that warm holiday feeling. Herbs work wonderfully as well. Try rosemary, basil, thyme and lavender all give off wonderful aromas.

Essential oil burners give off the fragrances of wonderful array of essential oils. Jasmine, rose, chamomile and orange blossom are all natural fragrances that can enhance your home.

Keeping a clean home and being creative when scenting the air can go a long way. Remember that the smell of your home is often the first and lasting impression for a person.
