How to Decide If Your Child Should Repeat a Grade
Growing up for a youngster is some of the most important years for a young child. They will grow and develop and foster friendships with other children their own age. These same children will go to sports clubs and other groups and organizations with them and hang out together. These friendships will last a tifetime and it is because the children go through together with each through school and classes together.
A child who has to repeat a grade will never be the same again. They will face ridicule from their peers about repeating a grade and made fun of because of how dumb they are. Life is not a fair game and children can be mean spirited and make fun of other children.
By having a child repeat a grade that child loses the friends he or she has made for the past years.
If a parent is very worried about their child in school, the first thing I would say is to calm down and carefully look at the situation of the child. Sometimes I have seen even the most loving of parents freak out because their child is a bad 1st grade finger painiter. A 1st grade child does not have to repeat the grade because he or she is bad at finger painting. That is simply absurd. Some of you may laugh but some parents are crazy when it comes to their children and over analyze everything. Kids will be kids as the old adage goes and some things they do are harmless. If a child is really struggling in school, parents of a child will be notified right away by their teacher.
sometimes a child is not getting along with his or her classmates or has a poor teacher who is unable to communicate with other students. Before as a prarent you rush to judgement about your child, consider the following? What is your child struggling at? Do other children struggle at this same problem in the class or is it just my cihld? Why is my child struggling in school? Are there any family problems in the way?
Even if you come to the conclusion from answering these questions that your child is having trouble in school, I would urge you to consider hiring a private tutor or seeking extra help from the student’s school before you have the child repeat the grade. Repeating a grade for a child should only be done in the most dire of circumstances. This only includes a child who is having so much difficulty in school that by moving them on to the next grade the child would be totally lost and unable to perform and learn in the classroom.
Also, sometimes a child will have a disease like Attention Deficit Disorder.
Another thing that can easily help a struggling child in school is for both of the child’s parents to spend more time with the child. Parents can read nightly or have their child read books each night to them before they go to sleep to increase their literacy and reading ability. Parents can also help them with their homework and double check the homework that a student has written for the next day. By taking a more active role in a student’s life, parents can prevent a child from struggling in school and having to repeat a grade.
