Kings – the King of Drinking Games

The name of the game is Kings, which has many variations of the rules but here is my set of rules which work very well and always promise a fun game with lots of drinks passed out. It is a very fun game and generally is played with 4 or more people you can play with fewer people but it takes away from the fun. So let’s get to the rules of the game.

So you take a deck of cards and spread it generally in a circle, each card in the deck has a different “Drink” value. For this game we will start with the low cards and work our way upward. 2-9 are worth their face value in drinks. Black cards you pass out the face amount in drinks to other players, and red you take that amount of drinks yourself. So a black 4 you can give out 4 drinks total to other players, you can split up the drinks between different players, so if there are 4 players, you can give one drink to each player. If you draw a red 9 you drink 9 drinks yourself.

Now the 10 to Ace are all special cards, their color doesn’t matter neither does their suit. The 10’s are socials, when some one draws this card everyone cheers and then takes one drink together. If anyone forgets to cheers then they drink an extra drink.

The Jack is what we call “Rhyme Time” this is where the person who drew the card will start off with a one syllable word and each player afterwards has to rhyme with another one syllable word. There can be no repeats of words and the words have to be real words and can only be one syllable. The first person to break the rules or not think of a word has to take one drink.

Queens are categories, this is where the person who drew the card picks a category and then people have to name things that fit into the category. Categories can be nearly endless some popular ones are types of beer, sports teams, and drinking games. Again there can be no repeats of a category and the first person who breaks the rules has to take a drink.

If you are lucky enough to draw a King then you get to make a rule, you can make any rule you want, but there are some limits. The rule can only be one rule you can’t set specific standards, like you have to say “I stink” before every drink and also tap your head twice before you drink. That is a two part rule your rule can only be one part. There is a loop hole; my personal favorite is I can tell anyone to drink when ever I want. You can have fun with this card, find inventive rules, like every time guys drink the girls drink, that way they won’t give you drinks and if they do they drink also.

The last card is the ACE and it’s the one everyone hates, it’s the waterfall card. Waterfall is where the person who draws the card starts to drink; simultaneously the rest of the group drinks and continues to drink. Now the trick is that no one can stop drinking until the first person does, but another catch is that you have to wait for the person before you to stop next. So if there are people 1, 2, 3, and 4; then once 1 stops drinking 2 can stop anytime they want, but 3 can’t stop until 2 stops and so on. Something we do to add more fun to this game is we choose the order. The person who draws the card has the authority to say the order is 1, 3, 4, 2 and then that is how the game goes with the above stated rules.

Basically these are the rules to the game you can change them if you want; you can have fun thinking up your own rules. Some rules we have substituted are for Queen’s we had questions, which is where the person who drew the card asks someone a question then they have to continue and question someone else until some one messes up. That person has to take a drink. I think this is a boring rule but some people love it.

Another common addition to this game is placing a full can or bottle of beer in the center of the circle of cards, as each card is drawn it is placed on the full beer. The first person to place a card on top of the beer and knock off the cards has to chug the bull beer. Fun rule but often times people don’t like to chug and won’t want this rule added to the game.

Think up your own rules and make the game your own, and most importantly have fun!!!!
