Golf is a passion of many and the season is here. There are a number of public golf courses located around Kitsap County, WA. Considered part of thePuget Sound area, Kitsap is a short ferry ride away from Seattle. It makes a wonderful day trip and emphasizes the beauty throughout our northwest region. Golf is always a great combination of fresh air, fitness, and is great for both sexes.

So, put your golf bag and golf shoes in the car, and get ready for a relaxing, healthy way to enjoy the Pacific Northwest.
Here is a listing of some public courses on the Kitsap peninsula waiting for you:

1. Alderbrook Golf & Yacht Club
300 Country Club Dr.
Union, WA 98592
360-898-2560
You have to drive awhile to get here, but as soon as you are in the area and see the Country Club….WOW!!! It is an architectural site! Just gorgeous! It looks like a mansion located on the hillside in Europse. That alone is worth the drive. 🙂 Once inside, it is something to see and just relish in.
Rates are very reasonable considering the exquisite surroundings and well maintained 72 par course.
There is ample parking here.

Top notch course. Superb surroundings. Prices are higher than other courses.

This gets a 4 out of 5 stars just for its beauty and relaxation.

2. Horseshoe Lake Golf Course

1250 SW Club House Ct
Port Orchard, WA 98367
253-857-3326
This is another championship golf course located in Port Orchard. Their advertisements make it look more fun than the average public course, though. I like that.
It is a 71 par course with reasonable prices. Grounds are well maintained and peaceful. Another nice feature is the great signage making it easy to find..
They also have a good driving range.

To demonstrate their ‘air of fun’ here is what they say about their ‘back nine’ (last 9 holes of play):
We call it “The Wild Side.” All kinds of varmints are back there; clubslingers, hackers, boozers, gamblers, or in other words golfers. 🙂

They are known for their marshals on horseback. It is a fun and unque site to see.

3. Gold Mountain Golf Complex

7263 W Belfair Valley Rd
Gorst, WA
360-415-5432
This is called a complex since there are two 18 hole courses here. The Cascade Course is par 71 and the cheaper of the two. The Olympic Course is 72 par and $10 more. They both are nice with well maintained grounds.
Their driving range is usually uncrowded and fun to use.
Once again, the signage to get here is superb.
Simply beautiful surroundings here. Prices are reasonable.

Rated #1 course in WA by more than a couple sources.

4. Meadowmeer Golf and Country Club

8530 Renny Ln NE
Bainbridge Island, WA…
I like their covered driving range. 🙂 This public golf course is well maintained and beautiful to see. Prices are typical Bainbridge.

The Pro Shop here has a really good variety and service has been ‘with a smile’ each time I’ve gone. It’s nice to just browse in here. :)”

5. Rolling Hills Golf Course

2485 NE McWilliams Rd
Bremerton, WA 98311
360-479-1212
This par 70 course is lower priced than other courses in the area, yet has about the same amenities. There is a well maintained course and the staff are friendly.
There also is a good covered driving range at an affordable price. That is a welcome relief during drizzly or hot, sunny days.
The course itself is 18 holes.

6. Trophy Lake Golf & Casting

3900 SW Lake Flora Rd
Port Orchard, WA 98367
360-874-8337
Well known and award winning par 72 course that takes a bit to get to. Signage is very good and makes the course easy to find. It is a relaxing and pretty drive to get here. Course is well maintained and very professional in appearance.
They also offer golf lessons by a pro.
The uniqueness of this course is the fact that one can also fish here at Trophy Lake. Hence, the ‘Casting’ in the name.
Prices are higher than other courses in the area.
Of course, a restaurant and pro shop is here. I have found the pro staff to be very knowledgeable and passionate about golf. It is a joy talking with them.

7. McCormick Woods
5155 McCormick Woods Drive SW
Port Orchard, WA. 98366
360-895-0130

This is a must see course for any golfer. It is classified as a golf community since it is surrounded by houses (very beautiful houses). You have heard about people living ‘on the second hole’? This is a real life example. The course is well maintained, easily accessible, and the location is quiet and relaxing. It is ‘away from it all’, which makes for a more enjoyable time.
I like the driving range here. It offers plenty of room.
Prices are on the upper end for this par 72 course. After playing golf, enjoy walking the nature trail or enjoy a meal at the reknown restaurant MaryMac’s. There is ample parking at this community.

8. Village Greens
2298 Fircrest Drive SE
Port Orchard, WA. 98366
360-871-1222
This is one of the smaller and more affordable courses in the area. It is a 58 par course and one can golf for less than $20 per day, both daily and weekends. How nice is that? Plus, the grounds are well maintained and easy to find (once you know where it is). I feel they could use better signage, though. The locals are quite familiar with this course, but others need good directions.
There is a covered driving range here and the price is very affordable. The Pro Shop is basic, nothing fancy here. That is nice, in my opinion. The staff are friendly and loving sharing their passion about golf.

9. Bayshore Golf Course
Located in Shelton, this 9 hole course offers 36 par. It is easy access off of Highway 3 and a great way to spend the day around the developing, yet homey town of Shelton. During the week, one can golf here for under $20. Weekends are slightly higher, like most places.
Grounds are well maintained and a pleasure to be on.
