Quick Fix: How to Repair a Broken Dish

Did you just notice a crack in your favorite serving dish? If you have just broken off a piece from your favorite plate, then read on to learn how to repair the dish with ease.

Whether the broken dish or plate is from your most precious china or your everyday dinner ware, you won’t want to simply toss it in the trash. Fine china or a typical supper plate is not cheap. Salvage your broken dish or plate simply and easily.

You will want to avoid just slapping the plate or bowl together with a touch of glue. Although this technique may somewhat fix the problem, it will not leave your dish looking like new.

To repair your plate or dish back to like-new condition, you will need a plastic tub or container and some sand. These inexpensive items are available at your local Wal-Mart. When you compare the cost of these items, you can truly afford them rather than the cost of replacing a fine piece of china or purchasing a whole new set of dishes.

To repair your cracked or broken plate or bowl, place it in a container of sand. Your plastic tub or container should have approximately six inches of sand in it. Be certain that the container is large enough to house the entire dish.

Insert the cracked or broken dish firmly into the sand inside the container. The sand will hold the broken portion of the dish securely in position while you make the repair. Next, using a small, soft paintbrush, wipe the area thoroughly to remove any dust, dirt, or debris. The tiny bristles of the paintbrush will ensure no residue will be present when you make the repair. Simply dusting off the area with your hand will not make the area clean enough.

When the area is thoroughly clean and free from debris, apply a thin coat of epoxy glue evenly to the cracked or broken area. It is a good idea to secure the dish in place by using masking tape or rubber bands. The sand and the tape or rubber bands will ensure your repair remains exactly in place right where you want it.

Allow the glue to dry for several hours. Giving the dish or plate overnight to dry is a good idea. You do not want to risk moving the plate or dish too quickly after making the repair. Doing so, may leave opportunity for the repair to slip out of position.

Once the glue has completely dried, your broken or cracked plate or dish will look like new! Give the plate another 24 hours of drying time to allow the glue to cure before thoroughly washing. After you have washed and dried the dish, use it as usual.

This simple tip will have your broken dish back to new in no time. A few easy steps will turn your dish from broken to beautiful quickly and easily. The best part is the repair can be done at home with little expense.
