Surfboard Selling Tips

Being a surfer I have sold dozens of surfboards in my life. You would think it would be pretty easy to just sell your surfboard. I think its pretty easy but to get a good price for it may be a challenge. Also, to have a satisfied buyer you want to make a good deal. First you will want to clean all the surf wax off of your surfboard. I normally do this with a old credit card. If it is cold where you live you may want to heat up your board a bit. You can set it in the sun for a few minutes or sometimes I run warm water on it in the shower. this makes getting the wax off much easier. you use the credit card to scrape the wax off. It makes a mess so do it out side.

When you get all the wax off your surfboard, I recommend washing it off to get any and all dirt off of it. This seems like a lot of work but it takes probably 20 minutes to clean it well. After you wash it off, check the surfboard for any holes, cracks or dings. If you find some make sure there that there is not any water in the surfboard before you repair the dings. For small holes and cracks I use sun cure. Its easy to use and does a good job of sealing your surfboard. It comes in a tube with instructions. You do not have to mix anything. I find it at the local surf shop and online. Its pretty cheap also.

After I have all the holes patched and I am satisfied that the board is clean. I give it a coat of car wax. Surfboards are like Corvettes, I have waxed my surfboards with car wax for over 30 years. It seals the surfboards from the harsh ocean water. The sea water is salty similar to the blood in our bodies. Because of the salt content of the ocean you must rinse your surfboard off every-time you are done surfing. Rinse it off with fresh water. If you seal your surfboard with car wax a few times a year. Your surfboard will last longer. I think that you may even notice its easier to catch waves with the bottom being more slippery and exerting less drag.

You will get the top price for your surfboard if you take my advice. Wouldn’t you buy a used surfboard that was all clean shinny that had no holes. I have many times. So if you want to get a good price for your surfboard clean it up repair the dings and apply car wax to make it look newer.
