Your Home Church is the Temple of the Holy Spirit Within You

When I was growing up, the term home church, (not to be confused with church within someone’s house), referred to the church building where one attended services, accepted Christ and was baptized. Even though individuals moved out of town, and or state, and joined other fellowships, the church they attended in their youth, is considered the home church.

Many times out of town members continue to send donations to the church of their childhood. And will visit whenever they returned to their home town. Both my husband and I saw this, in the churches we attended as children.

A home church is sort of like a home base. It is a place where an individual may have assurance, of somewhere to hold a wedding, and for a pastor to do the eulogy in event of death. I know people who, after living somewhere else for 20 plus years, were brought back to town, eulogized at their home church, and buried in the church cemetery.

Today there are those who actually have church services within their homes, so home church now has one of two meanings. Recently I have been asked by various clergy, if I have a home church. They were not asking if I held service within my home, they were wondering where I attended a local assembly.

These pastors, like so many others ministers and lay people within Christianity have been taught a certain method, and accept it as the only way.I have heard all my life, that one must join a church, attend service often, and take part in some type of activity or ministry within the building walls.

First and foremost, the Christian church is not a building, it is the members who make up the body of Christ, the household of God, and the Household of faith, (Galatians 10:25) Everyone who accepts Jesus free gift of eternal life is a member of His church.

Consider what the Spirit of the Lord, conveyed to the early believers, in Acts 7:48-51. Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest? Hath not my hand made all these things? Ye stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.

He states in Acts 17:24-25: God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshiped with mens hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things.

If His spirit dwells within us, then He is with us wherever we are. He is not waiting in a cold dark building for someone to turn on the lights and enter in. If He is within us, then He can communicate with us at any time. And we can access Him anytime, no longer bound to 11:00 Sunday morning, or a mid week service.

Once you realize this, you can begin to unravel from all the guilt laden man made doctrine. And you will not feel condemned, but empowered to answer that question of “Where is your home church”? The church is within you, your body is His temple.

You may choose to attend a local assembly, but remember that you do no go to church, because you are the church, and the church temple within you, goes where ever you go.Take care of your temple, and reverence it, just as you have been told to do regarding a church building.

You belong to the Household of God, and the Household of faith. Your home church is His temple within you, as outlined in I Corinthians6:19-20.
