How to Cook Baked Ziti with Ground Beef

Lean ground beef (ground chuck or ground round): 1 pound
Diced tomatoes, un-drained: 1 can (14.5 ounces)
Garlic powder or small clove garlic, minced: 1/2 teaspoon
Salt: 1 1/2 teaspoons
Tomato sauce: 1 can (8 ounces)
Chopped onion: 1/2 cup
Green bell pepper, chopped, about 1/2 cup: 1
Dried leaf basil, crumbled: 1/2 teaspoon
Dried leaf oregano, crumbled: 1/2 teaspoon
Pepper: 1/4 teaspoon
Ziti or elbow macaroni, cooked and drained: 8 ounces
Shredded mozzarella cheese, divided: 2 cups (8 ounces)

    Make sure that clean the entire work surface that you will be using to make this delicious dish. Also, remember to thoroughly wash your hands, utensils and ingredients that you will need to put this recipe together.     Remove all the fat from you beef and then cut it into small pieces with the help of a knife. Be very careful while handling a sharp knife as you should observe all the safety precautions to avoid getting injured.

    Take a large skillet and pour some cooking oil in it. Place it on medium heat flame on the stove and add all the pieces of beef into it. Then, add onions along with bell pepper.  Cook all the ingredients well until the onions become brown. You can add or reduce the amount of bell pepper or onions as per your own preferences. This will not have a dramatic impact on the overall flavour or taste of this recipe.

    Then, add tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, garlic powder, pepper and tomato sauce in the skillet. Mix everything with the help of a ladle. Stir in the elbow macaroni and ziti along with one cup of cheese. Put the mixture in a 2.5-quart casserole. You can use the remaining cheese as topping.
