How to Use Ceramic Flat Irons

All over the world, people with curly hair use numerous methods to straighten their hair; using a ceramic flat iron being one of those methods. Although ceramic flat irons are easy to use, there are certain precautions those need to be followed to prevent damage to the hair. If you are planning to straighten your hair with a ceramic flat iron, here are a few things you should have at your disposal before you start.

Things Required:

– Shampoo and conditioner
– Towel
– Thermal heat spray
– Brush or comb
– Blow dryer
– Hair clips

Instructions

  • 1

Determine the size of the ceramic flat iron depending on the length of your hair. The plates of a ceramic flat iron should be 1.5 inches or smaller for short or medium hair. However, if your hair is long and very curly, you should invest in a ceramic flat iron with plates 2 inches or larger.

The flat ceramic iron would work best if your hair is clean. Wash your hair with a shampoo and condition it in a shower. Dry you hair with a towel until it is only damp. Apply a small quantity of a quality thermal heat product.

  • 3

Properly brush or comb your hair to get rid of tangles. To prevent severe damage to your hair from the ceramic flat iron, dry your hair with a blow dryer before using the ceramic flat iron.

  • 4

Depending on the type of your hair, set the iron at appropriate heat setting. If you hair is thin, set the iron at the lowest heat setting. For normal hair, choose a medium heat setting. However, if you hair is thick or very curly, choose a heat setting between 300 to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Plug in the iron and turn it on, it does not come on automatically.

With a hair clip, secure the top half of your hair in order to separate it from the bottom half. Divide the bottom half of your hair into sections 1 or 2 inches wide. This will make it a lot easier to iron the hair.

  • 6

Position the iron at about half an inch from your scalp on one of the hair sections. Firmly press the handles of the iron and pull the iron down; at a very moderate pace. When you have ironed the first section of your hair, move on to the next until you have ironed all the sections in the bottom half of your hair. Iron the top half of your hair in a similar fashion.
