Comedy Clubs in the Kansas City Area

If you are planning on going out to see some live comedy then you might want to know what options you have and how to get in contact with those options. There are now two comedy clubs in the Kansas City area; the newly added Majestic Theater has added some extra opportunities to see some big name comics. The other club is Stanford’s and Son’s Comedy Club.

Since there are only two comedy clubs you won’t have a lot of choice in which club you go to really. Normally you will make which club to go to when you see who is performing where. Both clubs have good points and flaws that I think you should know before you decide where you would rather go.

The Majestic is the newest up to date club, because it was just built in 2005 at the Zona Rosa mall in North Kansas City. Since this club was just built it of course is very up to date, has nice seating, and is just has an excellent presentation. This club offers a full service bar and grill for all performances. The prices are a little high but that is normal with all comedy clubs, and The Majestic has raised the bar in the quality of food you can get at a comedy show. The service is tip top as well, servers as fast and accurate and so far always very cordial to me.

I also like the fact that The Majestic is not solely a comedy club, they also have three theaters playing recent movie releases. The matinees are only $6.50 which is a great price, and the evening shows offer waiters that you place your concession needs to and they bring it to you, no more leaving and waiting in line; this is only offered at evening shows.

The Majestic also has a caf© area with a full dining and bar service 6pm until close and have room for 100 guests. Half the seating is booths and the rest is bar style seating, table and seating at the bar itself. You can come here and eat dinner before a show or movie, or just come and relax after work.

The Majestic has a very nice website, easy to navigate to find all the information you would want to know about their club, theater, and cafÃ?©. On the site you can find upcoming appearances, the dinner menu, online ticket purchasing, and directions/contact information. I like the website except for, now you are required to register on their site in order to access all the information. I don’t like that aspect but they make up for it by offering complimentary tickets to a show for your birthday.

The one other aspect I don’t truly care for about The Majestic is they have a strict 21 and over policy. Now a lot of people between the age of 18-20 love standup comedy and might want to come see a show, well you will have to wait until you can legally drink before you are allowed to get into a show. Other than this small detail and the website registration I think they are doing everything right so far. I have been impressed with The Majestic every time I have visited so far.

For more information check out their website www.themajestictheatres.com or call them (816) 587-4500. If you would like to find driving directions the club is located at 7430 NW 87th Street Kansas City, MO 64153.

Stanford and Son’s comedy club is your alternative choice for your standup comedy needs. It is a true comedy club, by that I mean there are no theaters or cafÃ?© in this building. It’s a decent club found in Overland Park, a great location in Johnson County, close to the malls and other shopping. Stanford’s is an older club that desperately needs an upgrade in appearance, but that aside you can still see some of the best traveling professional comics around.

Stanford’s has a full service bar and offers a variety of appetizer and other food selections. They have two bars, on in the club and one for arriving customers to order some drinks before the show starts. Normally good service, at times in the past they have been slow to get drinks or food to our table, mostly good service though. Drinks and food are decent not to pricy, of course you have the two drink minimum they push on you like its law but if you don’t want to drink they cant force you.

Stanford’s website is pretty basic, nothing major, just list of upcoming performers, a map and the all important open mic schedule. That is one thing I really like about Stanford and Son’s they have open mic every other Tuesday for the beginners. But the site is basic they do have one Flash piece now, which is just an animated graphic on their website for you non-tech people.

I like Stanford’s but a few things they could improve on is the seating, I have sat in more comfortable chairs in an airplane. Also they pack it in so tight you are bumping elbows with everyone near you, they need to give us some space. The stage is small and an upgraded sound system would help them out immensely. If Stanford’s spends the money to make their club more modern I think they will be doing very well, also booking some of the better pros would bring in bigger crowds.

All around Stanford’s is a good club, with some small improvements I would go here all the time. I love standup comedy and like to see all types of comics and watch comics as they build their routines into masterpieces. If you would like more information on Stanford’s check out their website at www.stanfordscomedyclub.com or call them at (913) 385-3866 and they are located at 10635 Floyd Overland Park, KS 66212.

Well I hope all this information will help you know where you can see live comedy and what the clubs have to offer you and your group.
