Many people that suffer from acne are not even sure what the problem entails. And just like anything else, the more knowledge that you have on a subject, the better you will understand it. This is particularly true when it comes to acne. If you know exactly what the problem is, you should be able to combat it more easily.
Acne is a common skin condition that can occur at any time; most people think that only teenagers are affected, but adult acne is also very common. Acne occurs when the skin’s pores are clogged up with oil and dead skin. There are many factors that can contribute to a person developing acne. These factors consist of heredity, some make-ups, pollution, sporting equipment or clothing that may rub and cause friction, humidity, some medications, and hormones. These clogs are what cause the acne to occur. It usually presents itself in the form of red skin that appears to be swollen. Also, acne can present itself when a pore clogs, stays open, and the surface turns black. This is called a black head. So, there you can see that there are different ways of acne presenting itself. It is just a matter of knowing which way you have it and how to treat it.
At this point you may be thinking that all you need to do is get rid of the oil and dead skin and you can cure this problem. That is definitely true, but in more cases than not it is harder to do than it sounds. The majority of people that suffer from acne are in their teen years, and are going through puberty. This causes hormone levels to rise, which in turn causes more oil to make its way to the skin. The oil is produced by your body to keep your face moist, but when it mixes with dead skin cells acne begins to fight through to the surface.
Adult acne is also a possibility; so just because you are past your teen years does not mean that you are in the clear. Acne is more likely to occur in females, but, this does not mean that males are not affected by it. 50% of females and 25% of males are affected by adult acne at some point in their lives. Adults can get acne into their 20s, 30s, 40s, or into the later part of their years. Adult acne acts in the same way as the type that teenagers suffer from.
Acne is a problem that many people suffer from. It does not matter whether you are young or old, female or male, acne can be an embarrassing thing in a person’s life. This is why it is important to understand the causes and have knowledge of ways of preventing or getting rid of acne.
