How to Cope With Noise Anxiety

Coping with noise anxiety can be very difficult for anyone that is sensitive to loud environments. This type of anxiety can affect you at work and at home as well. It is hard to deal with noise in urban areas as there is constant traffic like cars and buses moving around the city streets. Also, with today’s technological gadgets like smartphones, tablets and music players, there is a constant stream of noise coming inside our homes. If you want to cope with noise anxiety then there are a few simple techniques that you can use to help you out.

    Find a quiet place:

    Whether you are in the office or at home, try to find a quiet place that is free from noise that you can sit and close your eyes. Make it a point to sit in this quiet place a few times a day to reduce the level of noise anxiety that you may be suffering from. Remember to make sure that no noise is coming in to this quiet room where you can sit and relax.

    Wear earplugs:

    Although it might not be practical at work, but if you are at home trying to cope with noise anxiety then purchase and use some simple earplugs. This will definitely dampen any noise that might be giving you constant anxiety. Be sure not to push the earplugs in to your ear too far as they can cause damage. Also, remember to take them out of your ears after awhile as you will want your ears open in case of an emergency.

    Play relaxing music:

    To drown out the noise of everyday life, you can always buy a CD that has ocean or rainfall sounds and play them. This will cover the noise and replace it with soothing more pleasant sounds in your home. These CD’s will also definitely help you relax after a long hard day at work.

    Keep the volume of your television, stereo, smartphone and other devices low. This will reduce the level of noise anxiety that you might be suffering from. You will notice a positive difference in the level of noise that gives you anxiety.

    Tell co-workers, friends and family members that you get anxiety from noise and this will hopefully encourage them from talking too loudly and make more noise than usual. By letting other people know what gives you anxiety will definitely help you in reducing your stress regarding noise.
