How To Do The Lazy Magician Card Trick

As the names implies, this particular type of mathematical card trick is often used and performed by magicians in several magic shows. What happens in this trick is that a magician gives cards to the spectator and asks him to shuffle them as much as desired while the magician has his face turned to the other side. The spectator, after looking at the top card, puts it back and shuffles again as the magician keeps looking to the other side. Once the spectator is done with shuffling and hiding, the magician holds the deck in his hands and reveals the card selected by the spectator.

Instructions

  • 1

Lay the cards on the table such that they are spread in a straight line and ask the spectator to choose any card out of them.

  • 2

When the spectator chooses the card, it can be shown to the audience so they are aware of the card that is selected.

  • 3

Once the card is shown to the audience, it should be put back in the deck and shuffled thoroughly so as to mix it with the other cards.

  • 4

After the shuffling and cutting is done as the magician looks to the other side, the spectator places the deck back on the table.

  • 5

If you are the magician, ask the spectator to put his or her hand on top of the deck as you start counting.

  • 6

Stop the count as you reach 4. Now ask the spectator to pick the first four cards from the top of the deck.

  • 7

The spectator will pick four cards and start placing them one by one on top of the table. The fourth card will the one that was chosen by the spectator!
