Make Lifestyle Changes
A healthy diet and lifestyle are the best possible preventative measures for treating dark circles under your eyes. The following should be part of your lifestyle and daily routine:
- Proper amounts of sleep
- Controlled sodium consumption
- Regular exercise
- Drink copious amounts of water
You have probably been told by your parents, doctors and every other Joe to drink lots of water. If you still don’t realize its’ benefits, just remember, water is one of the most crucial elements behind a healthy skin. This is the reason most skin specialists recommend proper water intake for treating dark circles.
Besides drinking 8 glasses of water, you can occasionally sip on very cold or hot water, which not only helps with your dark circles, but also burns calories.
The PH level in your body is typically around 7, and sipping on cold or hot water forces your body to burn calories to regain the natural PH balance. Moreover, adequate water consumption also does wonders for your kidneys.
Preparation H is more commonly known and used as a hemorrhoid treatment. However, it has become a secret weapon for those looking to reduce the swelling and puffiness under their eyes. Rub a small amount under each eye and let it go to work, tightening your skin.
Note: Be careful not to get any of the medication into your eye. If you do, flush your eye repeatedly with running water.
Green Tea Bags
Beyond its countless health benefits as a brewed beverage, green tea bags are a great aid in treating eye circles. This is due to the strong anti-inflammatory properties found in this natural wonder.
Steep 2 tea bags for 3-5 minutes and then allow them to cool down to room temperature. Once that is done, lie down and place the bags on your closed eyes for 10 minutes.
Repeat this at least once a day for one month and you will see the difference.
Not just for eating, are they? Place 2 spoons in the fridge for 30-45 minutes and then place them curved side down on your closed eyes for 10 minutes. This is more of a quick fix to temporarily reduce the dark circles under your eyes.
Another incredibly healthy item on this list, egg whites can be great for your eyes. Whisk two egg whites well until they are thick and stiff. Now use your finger or a small brush to rub the whites under your eyes. This will tighten the skin around your eyes to reduce puffiness.

Potatoes Instead of Cucumbers
Although most of us have the image of cucumber slices on eyes etched into our heads, there may be a better vegetable option - potatoes. Slice potatoes and place them on your closed eyes the same way you would place cucumbers. The starch in the potatoes will alleviate the swelling and puffiness under your eyes. It works, just try it!
