Review: Kaboom Never Scrub Toilet Bowl Cleaner

I was recently given the opportunity to try a new product called Kaboom Never Scrub. This was an opportunity I couldn’t pass on since one of my most dreaded chores is cleaning the bathroom, particularly the toilet bowl.

The website(http://neverscrub.com) states that this product has a retail value of $25.98 and the offer included the self-cleaning toilet kit plus 1 refill pack. For a limited time, consumers can try it for only the cost of shipping, which was listed as $4.99.

The product is described as easy to install, refillable, prevents rust and hard water stains, safe for septic systems, won’t harm tank parts, cleans completely under the rim and best of all, 6 months of no scrubbing!

I sent in my fee to cover the shipping costs and anxiously waited for my kit to arrive.

I was impressed the product arrived in just 5 days. However, I was disappointed to find that my kit did not contain a refill pack. Instead, it had 2 coupons for savings off the refill packs.

Nonetheless, I was eager to install my kit and marvel at the idea of not having to scrub my toilet anymore. If I paid $4.99 to have a scrub free toilet for 3 months, it would be well worth it!

Just as the advertiser claimed, the kit was very easy and fast to install. I simply attached it to the inside back of the tank, placed 2 small hoses in their proper place according to the instructions and within minutes the unit was ready to go.

Starting with a clean toilet, I did my first inspection after week one. The toilet was clean, just as the product claimed. The only thing I noticed was a slight chlorine, or bleach smell, which I assumed would fade over time.

Week 2 proved the same results. However I was disappointed that the bleach smell was not only still there, it was getting stronger. As long as it was working, I wasn’t too concerned at this point.

During week 3, I noticed two things happening. First, I was starting to see buildup in the bowl. It appeared to be mold and was leaving streaks in areas where the water ran when the bowl filled. The second thing I noticed was that the smell was becoming stronger and foul. It smelled like dirty diapers.

At this point I became very disappointed. The product was not working. Each refill unit was touted to last up to 3 months and it stopped working for me during week 3. I didn’t even get 30 days out of it.

By the end of the third week, the smell was so horrible that I had to remove the kit from the tank and stop using it. Even after manually cleaning the toilet bowl, the smell did not go away.

While all products will work differently depending on certain conditions (hardness of water, city vs. well water for example) I was truly disappointed in this product and would not recommend it as it did not live up to its claims for me.
