A Few Simple Wreaths You Can Make at Home

A Few Simple Wreaths to Make

Nothing says, “welcome to my home” more than a beautiful wreath hanging on the door. You can also use them indoors also – I put small wreaths on the two doors to my walk-in closet, on the wall near my front door and replace many of my paintings on my wall with seasonal during the holiday season.

Here are a few wreaths to try your hand at making –

A Pheasant Wreath

Purchase a 20 or 22-inch twig wreath. Add fall hued pheasant feathers, a few Brazil nuts or walnuts (you might spray them in a gold or bronze color) and a pretty satin bow in a fall color. (Tip: Use wire ribbon for a bow that won’t get crushed.)

A Huckleberry Christmas Wreath

Purchase a plastic foam wreath in the size you desire. Add artificial huckleberry branches around the edge, sticking the stems into the foam. (Tip: Dab a bit of craft glue to make sure the stems stay in securely.) Attach winterberries, and other dried seasonal berries around the center and inside of the wreath. (Tip: Attaching them in two random rows makes the wreath appear fuller.) Glue sumac leaves and dried amaranthus to complete the wreath. If you like, you might add a pretty bow either at the center top or center bottom of the wreath. (Tip: Using wire ribbon will keep the bow from getting crushed.)

A Variety of Eucalyptus Wreaths

Purchase a eucalyptus wreath in the size you prefer. Then add these embellishments –
First, the wreath all by itself is simply lovely and smells wonderful. Just hang it up.
Lightly spray the wreath with gold or silver spray paint. (Tip: put newspaper under and around the wreath to prevent damaging the surface you’re painting on. You might do this outside so the paint fumes are less intense.) Add a seasonal bow if you wish. Add a seasonal colored ribbon to the center top or center bottom of the wreath (Tip: change the color of the bow for different seasons.) Hot glue in tiny bunches of preserved or dried statice. Leave it as it is or add a bow as a finishing touch

At Christmastime, add tiny branches of red holly berries (you can also buy these in silver & gold) with hot glue. Place these in 1 or 2 large clusters around the wreath or place in small clusters around the entire wreath. Add a bow in seasonal colors or a plaid/print at the center top or center bottom of the wreath.

If you choose small wreaths, you can also use these as candle rings and other table top decorations.
