Colorado B&B’s: Holden House in Colorado Springs

In 1902, Mrs. Isabel Holden, the widow of former rancher and Colorado Springs businessman Daniel M. Holden, built a Colonial Victorian and carriage house. The two story Victorian homes stand today as a beautiful bed and breakfast called Holden House. It is filled with antiques and Holden family heirlooms. The five large suites are named after the Colorado towns where the Holden family had large mining interests. They are the Aspen, Cripple Creek, Goldfield, Silvertown, and Independence.

Katherine Lee Bates wrote the song “America the Beautiful” from the top of Pikes Peak which overlooks Colorado Springs and is a beautiful sight to see. The Holden House is located in Colorado Springs in the Pikes Peak Region. The inn is located centrally just one mile from downtown. It sits on a tree-lined residential street adjacent to historic “Old Colorado City.”

Guests enjoy relaxing in the many common areas of the Holden House. You can relax in the antique filled living room in one of the wingback chairs in front of the fireplace or out on the verandah in one of the old-fashioned porch swings. There are views of the mountains, the cottage garden, or the secret back garden with fountains and a gazebo.

Business travelers can enjoy an early riser’s breakfast. Holden House has wireless high-speed Internet access and a business center. It has all the ammenities of a computer workstation.

You can also enjoy a gourmet breakfast in the elegantly designed formal dining room. A great breakfast to try is Sallie’s famous southwestern eggs fiesta. There is also fresh fruit, tea, juice, and fresh-grounded gourmet coffee.

Some of the individual touches you will find at Holden House are afternoon wine socials; their legendary bottomless cookie jar and an evening turn down service. There are also special packages that include relaxing massages at the exclusive Garden of the Gods Club or champagne and flowers upon your arrival.

The main house offers two great suites. They both have easy access to the common areas. The adjacent carriage house displays an English Cottage theme. It has two sitting rooms. The large bay window seat displays a large collection of stained glass. There is also a cozy front porch for relaxing in the evening.

The house next door is the Rose Victorian. The Independence suite quests have a private front porch with a porch swing. There is a foyer with a sitting area and original built in parson’s bench. The spacious two room suites have hardwood floors.
