Easy Ways to Get Rid of Mold on Latex Bathtub Caulking

A bathtub can be spotless inside and out, but if the latex caulking is covered with mold, the tub will still appear dirty. Ordinary bathroom cleaning products will not remove it. On the contrary, the caulk will come off before the discoloration. It becomes imbedded in the material and seems to meld with it. However, replacement is not always necessary.

Many years ago I had a job cleaning apartments, and I used a very easy method to get rid of the mess. Try my easy ways to get rid of mold on latex bathtub caulking. If it is not coming off, it will look as good as new when you are through. Rubbing and scrubbing is never required.

Use Cheap and Versatile Rayon Coils to Get Rid of the Mold

A good friend of mine was a stylist, and while visiting her home and having my hair trimmed, I discovered a bag of rayon coils. They looked like long cotton ropes, and they are typically used to prevent perm solution and dyes from running down the face and neck. They were only $2.50 a bag at the time, and I began thinking of alternate ways to use them. I was in the process of cleaning a particularly dirty apartment. The latex caulking around the edge of a bathtub wall had become covered in mold. It was very ugly, but I had a plan.

Covering and Cleaning the Caulking

I bought my own bag of rayon coils at a local beauty supply store, and I took them to work the following day along with a gallon of bleach. I carefully dampened the soft white coils with bleach, and I placed them over the mold on the latex caulking. I left the coils in place while cleaning the rest of the apartment.

Upon returning to the bathroom, I removed my improvised beauty supplies from the latex bathtub caulking. The mold had disappeared! I did not have to rub or scrub the latex caulking, and it was as white as it was when it was first applied. The soft cotton-like ropes worked like magic. They stayed firmly in place, and the bleach worked to completely get rid of the mold.

I no longer clean apartments, but if I ever had an issue with mold on latex caulking around a bathtub, I would take the time to buy a bag of cheap rayon coils. They are available online as well as in beauty supply stores. They worked far better than using rags or sponges soaked with bleach, and I would not use anything else to get rid of mold on latex caulking around a bathtub.
