Getting Down to the Wire with NBC’s The Apprentice – Lee or Shaun, Who Will it Be?

Last night’s episode of “The Apprentice” started off a bit differently than usual. Normally the winning team waits in the suite for whoever will return from the boardroom, and last night was no different at first. Lee and Shaun sat waiting to see whether Roxanne or Allie would walk through the door. After waiting quite some time, Shaun decided he was going to eat. Who could blame him? It’s been said that the portion the television audience actually sees of the boardroom is nothing in comparison to the hours and hours those sessions can sometimes last.

Their dinner was interrupted with a phone call asking them to come to the boardroom immediately. This was a first, for the winning team to be asked to come to the boardroom. In the boardroom came their big surprise. Both Roxanne and Allie had been fired, and Shaun and Lee were the final two! They were given their assignment, told to pick their teams, and sent back up to the suite.

As the elevator doors closed, Lee and Shaun could be seen rejoicing rather physically at the concept that this was itâÂ?¦ the final task! Up in suite came another surprise- all the previous candidates! When Trump told the two men to go think about everyone who had been fired in the weeks past and pick their teams, I’m sure neither of them guessed that they would be picking their teams in person, but there they were, all of those who’d been fired, from the first week up to Allie and Roxanne!

Shaun and Lee spent some time celebrating with their former roommates and teammates, and then quickly got to work forming new teams for this final task. Shaun went about assembling his “dream team” and immediately chose Tammy and Andrea. Later in the show, Shaun mused that everything would be just perfect if he got “the job and the girl,” referring to his budding relationship with the Tammy, the beautiful brunette. Shaun rounded out his team with Tarek, who is a hard worker and gets along with others well, an excellent choice.

Lee’s selection seemed to be based less upon the valor of the candidates and more upon his devotion to him. Without giving it a second thought, his first choice was Lenny, simply because of his love and devotion to Lee. This may or may not have been the wisest choice, considering the fact that Lenny was known on other tasks to be good at giving his input, but not so good at giving 100 percent of his effort. It seems that Lee let Lenny heavily influence his decision about the other two teammates, and ended up choosing Roxanne and Pepe. Even Carolyn laughed at Lee behind his back at the choice of Pepe, asking, “Who is he?” Pepe had only been around for maybe the first two tasks and it was certainly hard to understand why Lee had chosen Pepe.

As the gentleman began working on their tasks, 22-year old Lee’s inexperience began to show, as he informed Carolyn how running an event involved so much more than he had anticipated. Perhaps if he had anticipated the amount of work ahead of him he would have chosen his workers more carefully. Lee got off to a rough start with the executive from the firefighters’ charity that his event was working to fundraise for. Towards the end of the episode, she informed Lee that she had been running this event for five years and was feeling apprehensive about how uncoordinated things seemed to be under his leadership. Still, it seems that Lee will push ahead with his characteristic enthusiasm and youthful vigor, and he does have a group of people that truly believe in him. Will it pay off in the end?

Meanwhile, miles away in Atlantic City, Shaun and his dream team were also realizing the vastness of the task ahead of them. It seemed, at first, that things were going flawlessly for Shaun, who orchestrated a walk -through for everyone involved and had a decent handle on the many aspects of the event. Tarek wondered if Shaun’s affection for Tammy had anything to do with why Shaun decided to assist with the catering meeting with Tammy rather than to be present at negotiations with Pontiac, the corporate sponsor for the event. Regardless, Shawn’s choice in sending Tarek and Andrea to the meeting proved to be a wise one as they made a good impression on the Pontiac executive, and managed to secure a donation of two cars from Pontiac to assist with the fundraising aspect of the event. Everything was moving along smoothly until Andrea explained, through tears, that she was not feeling well, and was even coughing up blood. Shaun explained that he did not expect her to continue and sent her off to the doctor with his best wishes, but still, Shawn and the remaining members of his team quickly felt the loss of Andrea, realizing the lack of information they had on aspects under Andrea’s care, as well as realizing the huge amount of work left before them, which would now fall heavily on a team short one person. Will Shaun be able to pull it all together, despite the loss of Andrea? Will Andrea make it back for the event?

We all wait in anticipation to see, at the end of this season of “The Apprentice,” will it be Shaun, the spirited Brit, or Lee, the youthful Jewish prodigy, who will finally hear, “You’re Hired!”
