How to Organize Your Junk Drawer, the Cheap Way

I’m sure everyone has a drawer in their house where they just throw their junk in every day. I myself have two. Cringe now, go ahead. There are just some items that I can just not find a spot for, so I throw them in there without even realizing it sometimes. I then am stuck with a drawer I cannot close, or sometimes not even open. As funny as this may sound, I know there are a few people out there that know exactly what I am talking about, so stop laughing at me. Now, can we continue organizing?

My junk drawer currently consists of lighters, random chargers and wires, cell phones that aren’t in use and odd and ends here and there. My method? The Zip Loc Baggie Method. I don’t know if you’d consider this a method, but it has worked for me, and kept my junk drawer organized. The baggies actually save room since they reduce space, unlike using boxes in a drawer for organization. I separate all my items into organized categories as listed above, and then lock them up in a baggie. I use a magic marker so I know where everything is going, and I use larger bags for organizing my bigger items, such as my remote collection. (Don’t ask.) I also like to throw menus in my junk drawer – my method for this one? Paper clips or binders are great for organizing your menus. A big paper clip works just fine to organize all your menus, but if you have an overload of menus, make yourself a binder to help stay organize. Then, this can come out of your junk drawer and make its way to the book case! You see, organizing can be one big circle!

I also throw a couple of small plastic bins in my junk drawer for things I need instant access to, such as my paper clips, scissors, or needle and threads. Now as for random Doritos and other weird paraphernalia in your junk drawer, that one is on you.

If your junk drawer collects a lot of change, throw a cup in there for the change. We have loose coin in all parts of our house, so I have a coin jar in the basement next to the washer and dryer (I swear one day I will be a millionaire off of the change I find in my boyfriend’s jeans!), one in our living room and also one in the bedroom.

Keeping your junk drawer organized isn’t that hard, take a couple minutes out of your day to organize it once using this method, and you will have a peace of mind knowing your organized junk drawer is in good shape.
