Lakeview Preschool Adventures

When considering a preschool for my son we looked into several programs in the Auburn area. We knew we wanted a Christian based program and a program that was balanced when it came to emphasis on academics and encouraging social interaction. Lakeview Nursery School (recently renamed Lakeview Preschool Adventures) was the perfect choice for us.

My son was already attending Lakeview’s Mom’s Morning Out program which has now been incorporated into the Lakeview Preschool Adventures program. From the age of 6 weeks to the age of four babies, toddlers and preschoolers are taught age appropriate skills and academics in a Christian environment.

In the Lakeview Preschool Adventures program, the children have the opportunity to learn social skills and academics while having fun. They are provided a healthy snack and given time to play outside as part of their routine. They participate in fun crafts, music time and chapel. My son grew academically and socially as he spent time in the program.

Lakeview Preschool Adventures begins enrollment in February of each year and enrollment continues until all spaces are filled. As far as I know there is no preference for Lakeview Baptist Church members and enrollment is open to anyone regardless of their religious beliefs. The program is a Christian based one and the children do learn about Protestant values and beliefs.

Lakeview Preschool Adventures baby-two year old classes meet twice per week for three hours. Tuesday and Thursday mornings are the days for the younger classes to meet. The ‘threes’ and ‘fours’ meet three times per week on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, also for three hours. Lakeview Preschool Adventures follows the Auburn city school’s calendar and is closed whenever the city schools are closed.

Lakeview Preschool Adventures is held in the preschool department of Lakeview Baptist Church. The walls in the hallways are painted with a fun mural of “All God’s Creatures”. The rooms are large and bright. There are bathrooms scaled down to be just the right size for children and join two rooms together. Each set of rooms is painted in a lively color. The environment is clean and cheerful and the children obviously love being there.

Each Lakeview Preschool Adventures class from the babies through two year olds has two teachers. The ratio of students to teachers is around 13:2. The head teacher is responsible for creating (guided by the chosen curriculum) and posting lesson plans for the week. The second teacher helps to facilitate these plans. In the ‘under three’ classes, parents are given a daily report of what their child did that day. This includes diapers changed, what snacks they had, if they played outside and new skills they were taught. The lead teacher spends time speaking with parents as they pick up their children to answer any questions or address any concerns.

In the three and four year old classes at Lakeview Preschool Adventures there is one teacher with a single aide who floats between classes as she is needed. The curriculum is more academic intensive at this point in order to get the children ready for Kindergarten. The ratio of teachers to students is around 13:1.

One of the best things about Lakeview Preschool Adventures is how hands on the program director is. She is present every time that school is in session and spends time in the classrooms making sure that the teachers are doing their jobs and that the students are learning. Part of the four year old’s end of the year assessment is done by her so that she, personally, can recommend that the child move on to Kindergarten or prepare more before beginning.

My experience and my son’s time at Lakeview Preschool Adventures were excellent. I would recommend this preschool to anyone in the area that is “preschool shopping”. The balanced program and Christian based theme is exactly what we were looking for and we were never disappointed.
